The Ohio Alliance of YMCAs Leadership Academy

The Ohio Alliance of YMCAs Leadership Academy is for Ohio YMCA staff to prepare them for leadership in the Y.  The 2023-2024 Cohort application period will open in August 2023.

What it is….

  • A 9-month cohort-based program for aspiring Y leaders
  • Limited to 16 participants – application process and pre-requisites included
  • General leadership development and branch executive leadership development
  • Focus on developing skills, expertise, and competencies in the four competency areas of: Advancing Mission & Cause, Building Relationships, Leading Operations, and Developing & Inspiring People
  • Priority consideration will be given for a diverse and inclusive cohort

Who it’s for….

  • YMCA Leadership Staff at a Director level or higher
  • One year of employment at an Ohio YMCA
  • Must have budget and staff supervision responsibilities at their YMCA
  • Commitment to the YMCA Profession
  • Commit to full and active engagement and participation in every session throughout the program, approximately 60 hours in total.  20+ hours homework/planning in addition to 5 days in person meetings and 7 virtual sessions.

  • Includes both in-person and virtual meetings
  • Includes outside of program reading/homework
  • Includes participant presentations and group projects
  • Includes a graduation/recognition dinner, including participant presentations
  • Includes tours and visits to Ys of all sizes
  • Includes volunteerism projects
  • Including Y history, network structure/resources, and networking opportunities
  • Based on the Ys Leadership Competency Model
  • Additional topics include Public Speaking, Writing Skills, Personality Profiles, Conflict Management, Board Development, Strategic Planning, Values/Beliefs & Guiding Principles, Etc.
  • Includes guest speakers
  • Includes individual coaching calls
  • Includes on-site meals and overnight accommodations
