Champaign Family YMCA Announces CEO Selection After a nationwide search, the Champaign Family YMCA board of directors has named their next CEO, Urbana native Greg Hower. The search was facilitated by the YMCA of the USA, in partnership with the Ohio Alliance of YMCAs. Hower will begin his new role on February 24, 2025, and will succeed retired CEO, Paul Waldsmith. Greg is a dedicated community leader with over 15 years of experience in nonprofit management, educational leadership, and program development. He has demonstrated a proven ability to lead diverse teams, engage stakeholders, and build sustainable, impactful programs that serve people of all ages and backgrounds. Most recently, Hower has served as the District Athletic Director at Urbana City Schools and is responsible for overseeing the athletic programs for over 550 student-athletes each year, managing a district-wide budget, and supervising more than 95 coaches, volunteers, and staff. Prior to his role with Urbana City Schools, Greg spent nearly 8 years at the Champaign Family YMCA as the Membership, Marketing & Sports Director, where he managed day-to-day operations of our YMCA. During his tenure, Greg expanded program offerings, increased membership and revenue, and developed key community partnerships. Greg is deeply committed to the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, and is excited to return to the Y that has always been close to his heart. He is particularly drawn to this opportunity to build on the Y’s legacy of service and strengthen its role as a cornerstone of the community.
